Garden State

Or not? These days peculiar ‘is a genre all its own’ Convention buster “is a convention in itself, and ’surprising’ has become so entrenched technique in a certain kind of movie you only surprised if you’re not surprised! The tone and feel of this film, not to mention the characterization and humor seem to owe much (as another review stated) Hal Ashby.

There are a lot of the centrality Harold and Maude plenty of other places. That’s not bad, of course, if done well. That is.

Not enough sincerity and sense of history and take it with style. It has a bit of stagger the introduction of the character of Natalie Portman, where the feeling they really were trying very hard, also the director and screenwriter could not quite connect with or understand what he wanted from her.

So it comes as an irritant on bowed-mad-PAC, just for a moment that threatens to break the complicity of the audience that a film like this depends, to work well. Ian Holm did not have much to do, but it was so perfect for the movie role and established himself as one of its most memorable.

Nice work if you can get. Despite its occasional oscillations, and perhaps a little self-indulgent excesses, this is a good effort for a first time director, whose talent shines through.

End Of Days

End Of Days First, let me assure you that this is a great film. His 4 / 5 stars, only some minor points which puts him just outside my “classic” 5 star status - there are only a handful of films in the list.

Next time I will mention that the main role (Arnie) was probably the best to play the part. Think Keanu Reeves in “Devils Advocate”.

Think Brad Pitt in “Seven”. Think Johnny Depp in “9th Gate. Think Keanu Reeves in the upcoming film “Constantine”.

Can you imagine Arnie play any of these roles … NO!

And its a bit strange to see him play this role. That said, seems to fit the profile very well, and in fact, probably his best film (!).

Arnie’s fans want to see him in an All-Action Film of course be disappointed cos it is not what the film is about. This reason is probably why most people either a) avoid the movie, or b) rent the movie.

The play is about the End of Days thingy in the Bible - and almost parallel to the upcoming movie The Da Vinci Code in some respects. There are sequences of bits of the type of action with Arnie (TAME by his standards) that are good and not too strong for the liking of the movies.

Lots of mystery and intrigue, and never got 100% to guess what will happen (as you can in a lot of movies). I recommend this movie for fans of the films I mentioned above - but not for Arnie fans.

The Village

This film deserves more respect than has been shown. Preconceptions that this movie is going to be a “thrill ride” or otherwise “jump out of your seat” monster / slasher film are perhaps why this film has had mixed reviews. This is an intelligent and (more important), well acted piece set.

The characterizations and realistic representation of all add a sense of empathy with the characters, and ultimately ensures the public really cares what happens to these people at the end. Notable performances from Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody and William Hurt add gravitas to the mysterious environment they inhabit.

I enjoyed all the The Village MNS has offered since the sixth sense (which in my opinion was much appreciated), and this is probably one of his films more attractive. As always, there is a twist in history, beating the public can find out before the final show, especially as we are “on call” for one. However, this reality is not detrimental to the viewing experience and I felt rewarded when my predictions were finally verified.

A thoughtful, character-driven film. Those of you expecting another “full on” monster movie should look elsewhere.

The DVD features deleted scenes, documentaries, video diary Bryce Dallas Howard, and a DTS soundtrack for moviegoers.

The Four Feathers

At a time when the British Empire’s expansion was a gentleman to do, a group of friends in the British army are being sent to a distant country to fight for Queen and country. However, our hero is questioning his ability, and finally resigned his commission and became an embarrassment to his father (a general), and losing his girlfriend (Kate Hudson). Each of his friends gives him a white feather as a symbol of cowardice, and our hero is left to ponder his decision.

However, as the regiment ships out, our hero realizes that she could lose her friends, so tag along, incongnito, helping whenever he can, but never reveals himself to his regiment. The story was very strange and is difficult to understand why he would resign the committee first and then decided to send anyway.

When he meets with his former colleagues, why not welcome them was also difficult to understand. A land full of strangers, but trying to avoid those closest to him? Need to take a leap of faith to accept the truth.

Good action, mostly bad die. A recall Zulu vs Lawrence of Arabia, but the achievement of the glory of either.

Alias - Season 3

I’m normally a big fan of Alias and can usually suspend my disbelief for some of the points of the plot and simply enjoy the action and characters. Without revealing how it begins, Season 3 begins weakly with a very complicated plot, which leaves the viewer confused and out of the loop. Although this may be the point, I find it difficult to re-engage with some of the characters I liked both of the previous series.

I hope in future episodes, is explained in more detail as the fabric are comfortable and one of the things I enjoy most all said series. This worth seeing and remains one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a long time.

Kill Bill - Vol. 1

Despite not wanting to go see this film in a cinema, a friend convinced me it was worth a watch and so DVD.Being me a fan of action movies anyway I’m not intimidated by the idea it is a bit violent. I prefer action movies with a bit of history and it does.

Lucy Liu’s story is especially good because you feel for your character (a cartoon flashback as a child is very good) and then seeing his dramatic finale. All very good. Even if you were tempted for the first time round, given a chance.

Clerks

I thought I needed to see again before taking the second half and was more fun than I remembered. This is definitely the best of Smith’s four films I’ve seen. Consistently funny and maturity that is often lacking in other films that made a difference in this, because the immaturity of works for laughs in this.

Upon reflection I think Smith is a good introduction to the works of someone like Richard Linklater, who sliced vague counterculture that much more comfortable environment, with a more incisive and established. That said, it’s fun and worthwhile for those of you who are not normal.

The Hours

If you ignore the hype, the Oscars, Golden Globes, the constant references to the one with the nose, this film still be good? God Yes!

But beware, if they do theatricality, it may not be your cup of tea. This is mainly due to the fabulous direction by Stephen Daldry, whose influence, experience and the heart is in the theatre.Just allow yourself, when you see it, to be taken.

Let the sumptuously melancholy piano music guide your senses through a discovery of loss, recovery of loss and how our ways of materialism. Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself opens the film for immediate recognition of who these women and more importantly how they relate to each other.

The layers of symbolism, perhaps, are infinite and therefore reflection. To see the whole model would take a millennium.

For Nicole Kidman, I can only say, because this is a real tour de force for the performance of your present becomes a passionate delivery of a troubled soul. Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore are in a surprising way. But take a second to look beyond themselves and be surprised Miranda Richardson, Toni Collette, Jeff Daniels, Claire Danes, Alison Janney, John C. Reilly, Eileen Aitkins to name just a few of the supreme supporting cast.

And if you’ve never been convinced of the passion and vigor of Ed Harris then this is definitely one to watch.

Hellraiser: Inferno

Hellraiser: Inferno A trickle of horror can own right, but very very tenuous link with the Hellraiser series and to be honest can delude ourselves that had nothing to do with the Hellraiser franchise all 90% of the film. is head of a pin (for like 6 minutes throughout the whole movie), as are a pair of weak cenobites box sorry. Taking as a horror movie, its good, and anyone who can remember Craig recognized his anti-hero role in Cliev Barkers Nightbreed.

This movie looks like it could trigger a franchise Lament Configuration ‘own - Tales of the box or something like it closer in line with this aspect of things, instead of Pinhead vs. the movie world. Do not remember seeing anything to do with Infernos well - looks like someone had an idea of how to make some extra money Hellraiser name and came up with this.

For rental only, not lose purchasing cents to add to his collection of Hellraiser. I am a fan Hellraiser great taste and was for having been duped by this road.

As mentioned, a good movie, no jumps or gory or scary, but good for a Saturday night with a second film, and some beer.
