Harsh Times

This is a good movie, but far from easy to see. Christian Bale (excellent performance) plays an Iraq veteran returning to civilian life fighting. His character is generally irrelevant (which it was not until towards the end you begin to feel sympathy for him), which is partly why the film is hard to see.

There is no decision of his character, about 3 / 4 of the way through which is largely unexplained and therefore feels less real than the rest of the story. However, excluding this point, the film has a quality all too real for him and the feeling of impending doom for the characters makes reading exciting.

The final stay with you for a long time, long after the credits … A word about gangsta accents of the main characters. My opinion is that they are trying to imitate real gangstas, but fit the macho image and not feel insecure.

Ignore the bad reviews of this film, because it does not relate to the film, but the matter does not appeal to all viewers of cinema.

Enemy At The Gates

Enemy At The Gates I liked the movie when I first saw it - the action sequences are impressive and the way the city-landscape colors seem so perfectly match the story had me hooked. However, looking back, the movie really goes too far in the book. Important parts of history have been played, leaving only the competition between the two snipers, which was the climax of the novel.

This, together with some a little ‘off’ Weisz as detracts from the movie - but only slightly. If you have not read the book, then it is a pleasure to see, and I urge you to do so, but if you’re careful, you may be disapointed.

The Descent

It started kind of good, but this lasted about ten minutes, then just trash and predictable. The ‘monsters were “extremely pants and just looked like something out of some crappy flic American teen horror.

The best moment in the movie: when the allegedly objectionable (but actually very stupid) got his bird The Descent hammer thingy through the neck of your partner. For those w * nkers to get off at the shots of Tomb Raider nubile girls in close breeks video camera between her legs. If you have a mental age of fifteen years and have seen the horror movie at least junk in your life then this is for you.

Breaking The Waves

This is a film that brings together the best and worst in you. Amazing acting by Emily Watson as Bess (the role). It made me think he was robbed of an Oscar for his brilliant performance.

The general argument is quite well known but I would suggest Breaking The Waves have tissues handy, as the story unfolds. Some parties are anxious to see, but it is a movie you really need to watch from beginning to end. In summary, this a film that will perform very mixed feelings, and certainly is a bit of a work of art in its own right.

Renaissance

I had never heard of this movie before, but I and my partner are very big fans of animation, we thought we would give it a try. Like most reviewers have said, this is a visually stunning film. Filmed entirely in black and white, urban landscapes are amazing, bringing to mind ‘Blade Runner’ in its futuristic styling of the industry.

However, the character animation is less impressive - the face Renaissance the animation is poor, and the characters move like a computer game characters (especially when running). The plot is typical dystopian future type thing - 1 big company control of most things in the city - and the characters are one-dimensional, so it’s hard to feel anything for them, as the story unfolds.

It’s worth seeing if you have the time, but not a patch on most Japanese animated films

Buffalo Soldiers

Buffalo Soldiers This movie is about the military performance right of the Cold War peacefully. It is essentially realistic. Situated right in the official end of the Cold War but has the cynical angle seventies, when (according to experts from the Cold War was really late seventies).

Characters indifferent about her is all about power and status of institutionalized and strictly organized nature. Whatever the intention of the film (and the book is based on) is better than not viewed as a deserter former enemy side behind the curtain. Southern Comfort now seems almost somewhat less sinister because it is more like Deliverance.

The soundtrack of the sounds nineties. To start saying that peace is boring and conclude by saying that everything is always war anyway. Slick, but viewed from peril.

Breakfast On Pluto

Sigh. Who decided to put on this film would be a good idea?

An Irish Catholic boy discovers his sexuality (transsexuals), with the backdrop of glam rock, sectarian tensions and IRA bombs. So Neil Jordan continues to make films about “the issues”, and Liam Neeson continues to give a living wage.

I mean, everything is fine, as it is simply not true Breakfast On Pluto worth all the effort - either see, or that are being made in the first place. I have seen many movies like this, and they always seem to be about people with alternative sexualities meet the challenges …

against the backdrop of something - whether the missile crisis in Cuba or the winter of discontent or … Bah! Simply insert your own milestone.

To Kill A King

To Kill A King The now defunct company Natural Nylon production were behind this film about Cromwell’s rise to power and the rates for this well in comparison with recent historical dramas such as “The Gunpowder Plot” (made for television, but worthy of a theatrical release). Tim Roth is a weasel, whimpering Cromwell, while milder Sir Thomas Fairfax is brought to life by the lush Dougray Scott.

Swapping his Scottish accent of clipped English tones, Scott is convincing as a level-headed man of nobility split between their loyalty to the monarchy (Rupert Everett makes a bristling, prominence Charles I) and its desire to modernize parliamentary . Not having studied this period of history I’m sure the accuracy of the plot, but care was taken to the complexities of the times to life in some detail. Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense) brings common sense to a supporting role as a friend of Fairfax-de-la-king’s wife and the likes of James Bolan and beef and Corin Redgrave sharing impressive.

One I liked a lot.

Memento

Memento This is one of the most original movies ever made. Visually, it is excellent.

A guy with a memory of fish attempts to avenge the death of their birds and (due to forgetfullness mentioned) that can only be done by recording the ETC tracks on his body (with tattoos) and taking polaroids. There we have it in few words - has there ever been a better premise for a movie? My only problem is that it could have been a little better. I do not know exactly what I mean by that, but for once in Hollywood, that is, substance over style

I could have done a little more glitzy.Nonetheless, this is a film everyone must see and definitely worth 5 stars for money from anyone.
